How to plant
Sow Ixia viridiflora in a sunny location, using a well-draining medium at a depth of 3–5 mm. Sow thinly and ensure good ventilation to prevent damping off. A seed tray at least 10 cm deep or a raised seed bed is ideal. Keep the soil moist, and germination should occur within three to four weeks.
This species grows rapidly, with some seedlings flowering as early as seven months after germination, though most will bloom in their second season. For best results, leave seedlings undisturbed until after their second season.
For successful cultivation, it requires sandy, well-draining soil, a sunny location, and a completely dry dormant period during summer.
Pots of Ixia viridiflora can be plunged into the garden during the growing and flowering period and removed for storage during the summer dormancy.

October to December
